An itinerary  from Cortona to the discovery of Wine production of the area of Montepulciano and Montalcino, stopping in Pienza , the beautiful Renaissance town famous also for the production of Pecorino cheese, admiring Val d'Orcia and the beautiful
Abbey of st. Antimo's, on the Pilgrimage medieval  Road 'Via Francigena'

FULL DAY PROGRAMME

09.30 am:  Meeting  with our tour- assistant at Piazza Mura del Mercato, in Cortona. Departure for the ‘ TUSCAN WINE-TOUR.  Arrival in Montepulciano.  Visit of the town on your own.

Wine tasting  of 3 kinds of wines  of Vino Nobile of Montepulciano and local produce in a local Wine-Cellar -Vino Nobile of Montepulciano  is  famous all over the world.

 "A noble wine destined for the table of gentle folk", as it is written in documents of 1700.

Small quantities of ‘Vino Nobile’ are matured for a long time in local cellars  with excellent results, even up to 30/35 years (the oldest bottle now dates back to 1887). 

11.30 am: Departure for Pienza ( about 30 minutes drive) , the beautiful Renaissance town wanted  by Pope Pio the Second, in his birth-place. Short visit of the town, famous also for its ‘Pecorino’ cheese

Lunch in a typical Trattoria, with cheese tasting. Departure for Montalcino at around 14.00 (2pm)

14.45 (2.45 pm) :  Arrival at Montalcino.Visit of the Abbey of St. Antimo's- Then drive to a winery in the countryside, near Montalcino. Tasting different kinds of Brunello wines , accompanied  by  typical produce 

There will be a guided tour of the Winery with an explanation of the differents stages  of the wine-making process from the harvesting of the grapes to the  bottling.

Return to Cortona, leaving Montalcino at  around 17.00 ( 5pm)


Price : 118 euro per person,         or         144 euro per person
            (base 4  PEOPLE)             (base 2/3 PEOPLE)

a)      Transportation by  car or a  minivan

b)      Assistance of a Tour Leader  during all the tour

c)      Wine-tasting of the wines listed in the programme above  and taste of local produce, bruschette, cheese, salumi, oil,  in Montepulciano town and  Montalcino area

d)    Cheese Tasting and  Light lunch in a typical Trattoria in Pienza

e)    Guided tour of  the Wineries  listed in the programme above, with explanations of all the differents stages of winemaking  from the grape -picking to the bottling process

f) Some free time to visit Montepulciano, Pienza and  st. Antimo's Abbey
